Ray M. Schultze
Ray is the author of seven novels of suspense and historical fiction—BERANEK’S STAND, DECATUR’S DIG, THE DEVIL IN DREAMLAND, THE LAST SAFE PLACE, COMBUSTION, RUSSIAN RIVER and, his latest, JACK LONDON AND MURDER ON NOB HILL.
He was drawn to writing as a child, his first creation a “magazine” of folded notepaper that his mother embraced with good cheer. After graduating from the University of California at Riverside, he came to the conclusion that the most practical way to support himself and still spend his days writing was to find work as a newspaper reporter. For twenty-five years, he stuck to the facts–at least as he perceived them–while covering politics, the legal system and education on papers in California, Florida and Arizona. When he left that world and began writing fiction, among the authors who inspired him were Alan Furst and Ken Follett. He now lives in Santa Rosa, California, with his wife, Judi. They are fervent tennis players and enjoy hiking, roaming the region’s beaches and headlands, and international travel. Some of the places they’ve visited have served as the settings of his novels. He is also an award-winning woodworking artist.
